He and Estelle journey through Liberl to become full-fledged Bracers, members of a non-governmental multinational organization that keeps the peace. During their quest, they confront Colonel Alan Richard and foil his coup to overthrow the monarchy. After the coup is resolved, Joshua confronts Professor Alba, who reveals himself as Georg Weissmann of Ouroboros. Weissmann states that Joshua is a former member of the society and restores his memories of his service. Fearing he will endanger Estelle, Joshua decides to leave to take on Ouroboros independently. He confesses his feelings to Estelle and then drugs her to prevent her from following him.

In Their Own Story

After the celebratory party following the foiling of Colonel Richard's coup, Joshua confronts Professor Alba, an archaeologist the party encountered throughout their quest, and accuses him of orchestrating the coup. Alba reveals that he is actually Georg Weissmann, a high-ranking member of a secret society called Ouroboros, and that he manipulated Richard into pursuing the Aureole. Weissmann also states that Joshua is a former member of the society and restores his memories of his service with them. In fear of endangering Estelle, Joshua decides to leave in order to take on Ouroboros independently. After confessing his feelings to Estelle, he drugs her to prevent her from following him before departing.

Reader's Guide

Joshua is one of the 8 playable characters in Trails in the Sky. Apart from the protagonists Estelle and Joshua, other characters rotate in and out of the party while playing the main story. In combat, which is turn-based on a grid, each character has three methods for action: Arts (magic spells that take an extra turn to cast), Crafts (character-specific abilities that use Craft Points), and S-Crafts (powered-up Crafts usable when a character has over 100 CP, depleting the gauge). S-Breaks allow characters to immediately perform an S-Craft regardless of turn order. Joshua's role in the story is central: he and Estelle are the only characters who remain in the party throughout the main story, which is split into a prologue and four chapters.
