Lore & Background

In the world of Zemuria, the Bracer Guild serves as a network of licensed adventurers who handle everything from monster hunts to escorting caravans through treacherous mountain passes. The Rolent Branch, where Estelle and Joshua work, is a modest outpost in a farming town, but the guild's reach stretches across kingdoms, churches, and military fronts. Bracers are bound by a code of neutrality, yet in SC they are repeatedly drawn into disputes that blur the line between local trouble and continental politics.

Beneath the surface of trade routes and church diplomacy lies the Black Moon, a clandestine organization whose members operate under false identities and whose goals remain deliberately opaque. Their influence threads through military command, religious authority, and even the Bracer Guild itself, making every ally potentially compromised. The game's narrative structure rewards players who track relationships and guild records, as information gathered in one chapter resurfaces with new context in the next.

The broader lore of Zemuria in SC emphasizes a world in transition: the old order of the Holy Church and established kingdoms is being tested by new technologies, shifting alliances, and the quiet machinations of groups like the Black Moon. Estelle and Joshua sit at the intersection of these forces, their personal bond and Bracer duties making them both targets and witnesses to events that will reshape the continent.

In Their Own Story

The rain had not stopped for three days when the Rolent Branch's bell finally rang. Estelle was mid-sentence, explaining to a farmer why his missing livestock was almost certainly a wind-up golem and not a goblin, when Joshua set down his coffee and said, quietly, 'It's Cassius.' The room went still. Cassius never called. Not for a lost cow. Not for a minor escort dispute. Estelle grabbed her coat, and the two of them were out the door before the farmer had finished his question. The road to Crossbell was slick, the sky the color of old iron, and somewhere ahead, an airship sat waiting with its engines already warm. Whatever the Black Moon had set in motion, it was no longer a story told in guild reports. It was a story told in the sound of running boots on wet cobblestone, in the way Joshua's jaw tightened when he looked at the horizon, in the way Estelle's hand found his sleeve and held on. The sky was about to crack open, and they were going to walk right into it.

Reader's Guide

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC (Sora no Kiseki SC) was released in 2006 by Nihon Falcom and is set primarily in the city of Rolent and the Kingdom of Crossbell within the continent of Zemuria.

The central conflict revolves around the Black Moon, a shadowy organization manipulating political and military tensions across the region. Estelle and Joshua, working as Bracers at the Rolent Branch, are pulled into escalating incidents that reveal the Black Moon's hand behind seemingly unrelated attacks, diplomatic breakdowns, and church-related disputes. As the investigation deepens, Joshua's own past and his connection to the Black Moon come to the fore, forcing both protagonists to confront questions of identity, loyalty, and the price of neutrality.

Key story beats include the Bracers' involvement in a major political crisis in Crossbell, the unraveling of the Black Moon's leadership structure, and a climactic confrontation that tests the bond between Estelle and Joshua. The game also expands the airship combat system and introduces new locations and characters who will reappear throughout the broader Trails saga.

The ending resolves the immediate Black Moon threat while leaving the broader political landscape of Zemuria in flux, directly setting up the conflicts and alliances explored in Trails in the Sky the 3rd and, by extension, the subsequent Trails of Cold Steel and other series entries.
